When I made this illustration, I was studying composition. To practice, I applied the 'rule of thirds.' With this type of composition, the canvas is divided into nine parts with four lines. The points of interest in the illustration (usually two) are placed near the intersections of these lines. Vertical lines, such as those from buildings, and horizontals, like the horizon line, are also positioned near these divisions.
